The one thing that I have gained most from my current 'in depth' reading of past public controversial revelations that received a lot of media attention.
The worst parts, worst offenses, even confirmed are not reported on extensively in mass media.
I noticed this especially with what has been verified about Abu Ghraib and the Snowden disclosure.
With either one, a respected news outlet had to report something.
Interesting that the real meat and potatoes largely gets swept under the rug during the media frenzy.
Everyone knows about the MP photos from Abu Ghraib by ordinary MP's often reservists.
The confirmed murders resulting from torture at the hands of elite troops and CIA contractors at the SAME location are by far lessor known.

In the book that I am currently reading many different sources propose the theory that the reserve MP's having witnessed the behaviors of elite troops and CIA contractors were thinking how could what we are doing even compare ?
The book further shows that many of such behaviors by the reservists at Abu Ghraib were specifically authorized and recommended by the commanding General.

As far as I am aware FISA approves next to 100 percent of all requests
Further requests are generally submitted after surveillance has already been active for some time
Basically akin to police searching you, then submitting a warrant for approval to search you
In a Supreme court decision from 2006 your cellphone microphone may be used to collect evidence WITHOUT A WARRANT ... Of course this stems from a case against this thing of ours
Oddly, the Supreme court more recently, June 2018 proclaimed that a warrant is needed to request location of cellphone from cellphone provider
That's the insanity of the Supreme court for ya, entirely lawful for the Fed's to remotely activate your cellphone microphone without a warrant however if the authorities want to request location of cellphone from cellphone provider they need a warrant.
Of note, you have to know what you are looking for to get Google to provide link to 2006 cellphone ruling against ya know , marinara
Putting in search terms that should , should reveal the more important fact that your cellphone microphone can be used without a warrant.._
