I am not saying cops are bad, police are human beings.
Police are taxpayer funded security guards, nothing more.
"Protect and Serve" has always been a lie, marketing and propaganda.
Police have zero obligation or liability to protect or serve you UNLESS you are already in Police custody.
What keeps society functioning is unfortunately THE THREAT police provide to amoral people and the LIE the general public believes that Police duty is to 'Protect and Serve' the general public.
The Police have zero obligation to the general public for any reason unless you are already in Police custody.

I personally know career police officers, have known deceased Police Chiefs and know current FBI.
Eventually they all say something they're proud of doing while on duty, that is reprehensible, without fail.
They're human beings, given power over anyone that isn't Law Enforcement.
It's power granted to more than generally average intelligence with limited education.

It is the illusion that Police are there to 'serve and protect' the average citizen coupled with the threat to noncompliant individuals that keeps society functioning.
Contemporary society functions because EVERYONE is under duress.

Responding nurse when I reached Veteran Affairs Emergency Room "That's not good," .
I was immediately wheeled into surgery.
It obviously wasn't a car backfire.
I have a interesting scar on my thigh.
Lucky me I had a maxi-pad in my shoe to use as a compress.
No fucking tellin, what happened... Only that it did happen.
Again, anyone want to place a wager on that scar on my thigh? I wager I can get that surgical record from the Veterans Hospital too.
I'm pleased to have the luxury to say.
I don't dial 911.

What was it last week a 9mm bullet somehow went through my first floor kitchen ceiling and I live in a 2 story Townhouse.
Only 1 place that bullet could have came from.
