That was a crazy film, who knew Roddy Piper could act....sadly he is no longer with us since 2015....all the great wrestling entertainers of the 80's & 90's are leaving us.

He really did do a pretty good job acting in that movie. I would have enjoyed seeing him become a bigger star and have roles in some other major Sci Fi and action films. Sadly it was not meant to be. Although he did have roles in a few other smaller films, none of which I have seen yet. I will have to check them out one of these days. Have you heard the commentary that he and John Carpenter did together for "They Live"? It's really interesting. Give it a listen sometime when you get the chance. Here's a posting of it from You Tube, but it's even better listening to it as you watch the film right along with it, but for legal reasons they couldn't post that on You Tube. Still, it's a fun and informative commentary.

John Carpenter made so many great films over the years, but "Escape From New York" will always be my favorite. Plus, "Ghosts of Mars" should have been higher up on the list too.John Carpenter's Films - Ranked From Worst To Best

Yes, John Carpenter has never gotten the respect in Hollywood that he deserves, my guess is because he doesn't play politics very well, "Halloween" got him noticed but "Escape From New York" in 1981 had to compete with "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Superman II" & the Bond film "For Your Eyes Only", so it sort of got lost in the mix, the next year 1982 "The Thing" was up against "E.T." & people wanted a friendly alien, not a murdering alien, it also had "Poltergeist" to compete with & it opened the same day as "Blade Runner", both were overshadowed by "E.T." & lost in the mix, when asked why he directed the film "Christine" in 1983, Carpenter said it was because he needed the work, he was an established name & he needed the work??....the following year his "Starman" won him praise, I remember everyone talking about it & how good it was, but when he followed that up with "Big Trouble in Little China" in 1986, the critics once again trashed him & the movie & it was a box office disappointment.....yeah, Hollywood just doesn't seem to like Carpenter for some reason.....he praised the "Thing" Prequel & offered an outline for a sequel to his film & Universal told him they were not interested......however I think it is safe to assume that Kate, McCready & Childs froze to death & since Kurt Russell & Keith David are much older now, it wouldn't make sense unless they had a new team find them & Kate frozen & we get a CGI shot of Russell & David...at least that would finally explain their fates.....Carpenter stated that he actually had a female character that was suppose to be a survivor trying to warn McCready & his team, but they later wrote her out of the film because the actress got pregnant & Carpenter didn't want the extreme cold conditions harming the unborn child, no word on who the actress was at the time, so Kate I am sure was written for that purpose.

Wow, that is pretty interesting. I did not know all that. To be honest, I am glad that they never made a sequel to the Thing. While I am kind of curious as to the fates of Childs and McCready, it still ended on a perfect note, I think. Now, as for "Big Trouble in Little China", well, that is a different story altogether. That is one movie that should have had a sequel, in my opinion. It is one of Carpenter's best films, and probably my 2nd fave by him. And I would have really liked to have seen another sequel to "Escape From New York" as well. While "Escape From L.A." was a kinda disappointing sequel, it is still a fun watch. There were rumors that Carpenter wanted to direct a 3rd in the series, "Escape From Earth", which sounds sorta cheesy in premise, but that is what makes so many of his films so much fun to watch, the tongue-in-cheek cheesiness factor about them. Also, Carpenter knows how to tell an interesting and exciting story, while adding in some thought-provoking concepts about society and humanity while still at the very same time not bashing you over the head with his political views like a lot of the current SJW movies are prone to doing these days. George A. Romero's movies are similar to Carpenter's in that respect. They both made sure that the stories they were telling, and it's characters and the entertainment factor came first and foremost while subtly adding in their political viewpoints here and there, but not enough to overwhelm the viewer with a lot of boring messages.

"Escape From New York" is a cool dystopian film, but now the World Trade Center really makes it look unreal, but it is still a cool movie, hey Rock, did you ever see "Used Cars"?.....it is still a funny movie, I remember as a kid trying to grasp Kurt Russell in both films, his characters in both films were total opposites & he looked different in both films, Steven Spielberg was one of the executive producers on "Used Cars" (who knew) & Robert Zemeckis directed it, Michael Douglas loved it which is why he asked Zemeckis to direct "Romancing The Stone" whose success allowed Zemeckis to do "Back to the Future".

Yeah, I've seen that one a few times. They used to play it frequently on cable TV back in the 80's. It's a really great movie. Not only was Kurt really funny in it, Jack Warden was great in it too. I wouldn't mind seeing that one again sometime as it's been decades since I last watched it.

Cool! I will have to get myself a copy of it when it releases. Speaking of "Used Cars", I was just watching some clips of it the other day and remembering how good it was, when I happened upon this one clip that shows the actual location of where the movie was filmed at in Arizona and how it looked 25 years later. It was filmed on an actual used car lot. I can't wait to hear the full commentary for the movie once it comes out. Film Location of the movie "Used Cars" 1980 compared 2015 "This video shows shots of the Movie "Used Cars" and what the location look like during the filming and what the location look like now. Used cars was released in 1980. The trailer park scene in this movie is located right next to the used cars dealership. The movie scene is showing the back of the trailer park during Rudy trying to selling the bike. You can see how the trailer park is now rearranged. I filmed from the front facing the back. The back is over the shoulder of Jim while he was BBQ on the grill. The trailer park is so small if a person were to drive down the street they would miss spotting its location. You can see the side of dealership next to the trailer park. The movie was rushed to the theaters without any advertising so consequently it suffered at the box office. Later, "Used Cars" became one of those movies that developed a cult following after a unsuccessful box office run. I lived down the street from this location from 2003 to 2007. This movie was filmed in 1979 and released in 1980. My shots was filmed in 2015."

Wow... A lot of deleted You Tube videos on the first page of this thread! Anywhooo... Here is a video of some scenes from one of the funniest TV shows to ever air on cable TV, "Son of the Beach", a parody of the popular show "Baywatch". I own the entire series on DVD and I highly recommend it to any and all who love raunchy, low-brow, politically incorrect humor and are looking for some good laughs. Starring Timothy Stack as Notch Johnson. Ah, I really miss this show. P.S.: Just a FYI, a lot of the jokes centered around the name of the buxom blonde lifeguard whose name in the series is B.J. Cummings, hence why Notch would frequently comment about B.J.s in the show. The show was renowned for it's hilarious double entendres. Notch Johnson`s funny jokes, scene`s and quotes

Before there was "Son of the Beach", star Timothy Stack used to have another hilarious, raunchy and politically incorrect late night show spoofing tabloid talk shows titled "Night Stand with Dick Dietrick". This show was very funny and I used to stay up many late nights just to watch it. Why it has never been released on DVD or Blu-ray I will never know? It surely deserves to be. Here is an episode to get an idea of what the show was like. You can see more episodes for free on You Tube, although the picture quality on them is very lacking. It was a great show though and I really miss it. Good times. Night Stand ~ Nancy's Forest
